Level 3 Allison 1000 Build Up

This transmission will have everything in the #1000SRK rebuild kit. In the PATC Duramax Diesel test truck the stock transmission started to slip and go to limp mode with only a power programmer installed. Current upgrades include a Diablo Sport 120 horse power programmer, PATC level 3 Allison 1000 transmission, 4 inch Bully Dog exhaust, Bully Dog propane injection, Bully Dog RFI Cold Air and a NOS 130 horse power Dry Kit. As of 4-7-05 this test truck has 635 horse power and 1200 foot pounds of torque. We should know something real fast, because this a daily driver and raced at the track on weekends. Thanks to Raybestos for donating their newly designed clutch set for this test. Update: On 7-15-05 we added our new Allison "Triple-Disk" torque converter.

The reason for the machine work on the C1 clutch hub is the early / smaller thrust bearing needs to be upgraded to the larger late model thrust bearing anyway. A new larger thrust bearing and instructions come with the input shaft.

This shaft is designed for extreme conditions such as: drag racing, sled pulling, Cummings 6BT conversions, Motor home conversions, and heavy towing and hauling. This shaft is made from 300M steel. We have added an additional lubrication hole for the P3 sun gear and pilot. We have also gun drilled and micro polished the through hole of this shaft. This modification also eliminates internal stress risers. This is the absolute best shaft available on the market today. A must for heavy load applications. Cost $475.00

Prior to final assembly, T-44587AC is installed at the PTO mount, held in place by two bolts. T-44587AC is used to support the main shaft during assembly, providing preload.  Why?  Once the rear half is assembled and the extension housing is bolted in place, you must roll the trans back over, bellhousing flange “up”. During this procedure, if not preloaded, the main shaft is able to move.  Often, this causes the P3 sun gear thrust bearing to fall out of place.  At a minimum, this creates clearance issues costing the time spent disassembling. If gone unnoticed, the bearing gets pinched and self-destructs on the test run, taking out costly hard parts with it.

Installation instructions for the #86C Allison 1000 transmission cooler. A 2007 back is a straight forward installation and similar to the 2008 up. This installation is on a 2008 up 3/4 ton truck. Picture #1 remove the grill and disconnect the cooler lines. Then remove the factory cooler.  #2 cut the grill bracket on the right and left sides. #3 heat bracket as shown. #4 bend to the front one inch. #5 heat the other side. #6 bend the other side out. #7 & #8 test fit the new cooler. The cooler goes off center to your right. #9 install cooler brackets supplied. #10 brackets and adapter fittings installed. #11 place a small piece of filler metal between cut grill bracket then weld the right and left sides. #12 welded grill bracket. #13 install the cooler lines and make sure there are no bolts close to the air conditioning condenser. #14 finished job, install the grill and check your transmission fluid. We installed the cooler and a cast aluminum transmission pan on the same day. The owner reported back to us four days later with a 30 degree drop in operating temperature.

#1000-CCV. C-1 Clutch Control Valve and Seal Kit, 2003 & earlier. 

The OEM C1 clutch control valve has a fixed flow rate and no seal at the large spool to prevent hot fluid loss. The Sonnax updated valve 37000-05K controls the fill and exhaust rate of the C1 clutch as well as reducing loss at the valve bore. The regulation contour of the Sonnax valve provides a controlled fill to reduce harsh engagements common to cold weather, long sit or reverse to forward abuse conditions. Controlling the flow rate reduces wear on the C1 clutch hub. Once the valve is open, the C1 flow is increased over OEM to overcome fluid loss at the drum. The valve also has a Teflon® seal to prevent incoming pressure loss to exhaust at the pump casting, which can occur under hot abuse conditions. Cost $37.00

Lube Regulator & Converter Relief Valve Springs

#37000-01K. (2 SPRINGS) The converter regulator spring controls converter charge and feeds the lubrication circuit. When the spring becomes weak or broken, converter pressure is reduced. This causes delayed engagements, reduced torque output and increased operating temperatures. The lube regulator spring affects converter pressure as well as lubrication pressure within the cooler and unit. When this spring breaks or becomes fatigued, converter temperature and gear train temperatures increase. If either spring is excessively strong, both converter and cooler pressure increases. This can result in converter flex and cooler circuit cross leakage. Cost $9.00

F-Trim Valve End Sleeve

#37000-03. (1 END SLEEVE) The F-trim valve is controlled by a PWM solenoid that continuously strokes the valve. When the valve end sleeve becomes worn from constant oscillation, it allows TCC PWM pressure to leak to exhaust, inhibiting the valve from stroking against the spring and causing converter apply concerns, TCC surge, TCC slippage, code P0741 and overheating. The valve end sleeve can also become worn enough to cause the valve to stick, causing converter release problems as well as apply problems, depending on which direction the valve gets stuck. The Sonnax valve end sleeve is wear-resistant and has high lubricity characteristics to restore the F-trim valve to normal operation. Cost $10.00

A sticking E-shift valve in an Allison series unit can be caused by a weak spring, an out-of- round valve bore, or excessive flashing on the valve body casting. The Sonnax E-shift valve spring has a higher spring rate than the OEM while the bore sizing tool allows you to improve bore roundness and remove excessive flashing.
